Rann Utsav: The Unique Festival of Rann Utsav

Rann Utsav is the annually organized festival of celebration of life, culture of kutch and tradition of Gujarat. Every year its organized in Dhorado in the largest district of India, Kutch and is hosted by the Government of Gujarat for the tourists who wants to experience the sheer beauty of Rann of Kutch, taste local cuisine, traditional music and dance and  indulge in the culture of Kutch. The Rann Utav is held every year from November to February has over 350 tents including ACs and non ACs, on requirement they can also built more tents as per the requirements as done in 2015-2016 when they built 100 extra tents to cater the increasing demand.

Rann Utsav not only offers you a visit to the Great Rann of Kutch but also hosts a lot of other activities including para motering, paintball, dirt biking, camel rides and also have a local recreation center where visitors enjoy their free time playing table tennis, carrom, chess and other games. Apart form this its an ideal place to witness the creativity of the artisans and craftsmen, a different and rare genre of folk music, along with mixed representation of culture and communities. With the help of NGOs local Artisans set up their own shops in the tent city from where you can buy clothes and other things made by the craftsmen of Kutch. For the internal transportation there are electric carts available within the Tent City.

Tour Packages

Rann Utsav offers you two kind packages which include a 2 day/1 night package and 2 day/ 3 night package. A package would include your pickup and drop from bhuj,  trip to the great Rann of Kutch, and visit to some nearby destination in Bhuj which include Aina Mahal, Bhujodi (Handicraft Village & Craft Park) and Sri Swami Narayan Temple. There is also an optional Chargeable Tour Sightseeing to Mandavi beach, Kala Dungar and Indo Pak border.

The Itinerary generally starts with lunch on day 1 followed by some in-house activities, evening tea and then visit to Rann of Kutch through Camel Cart / Bus on first come first basis. For those who want to take the camel ride should reach the starting point by 4:30 PM as there is a huge demand of camel cart and there are only 6-7 camel cart available. After the visit to White Rann to witness the Grandeur of Sunset its time to taste the local cuisine and followed by cultural activities which include live music and dance. The second day depends on your package if you take a 2 day/ 3 night package there is another visit to Rann of Kutch in the morning and for 1 day/ 2 night package the checkout time is 10:30 from where you are taken to Bhuj to visit Aina Mahal and local places in Bhuj.

Other nearby attractions

Mandvi beach around 2 hours from Dhorado is one of the nearby destination that attracts a lot of tourist. It give you a beautiful view of sunset at the coast of Arabian sea. Kala Dungar is another where people go, it is also called as Black Hill. Kala Dundar Hill is the highest point in Kutch and located very close to Indo Pak Border there is an Army Post at the top. Kala Dungar gives a view of how the white desert starts from Arabian sea and is stretchs over 7500 square KM. Apart from these you can also visit Bhuj to see Aina Mahal, Bhujodi (Handicraft Village & Craft Park) and Sri Swami Narayan Temple.

How to reach Rann Utsav

The nearest airport to dhorodo is Bhuj though it does not have a good connectivity alternatively you can take a flight to Ahmedabad and then take a bus to Bhuj from where a bus will pick you up for Rann Utsav. You can also reach Bhuj by train or can take a cab to dhorado itself.
